Summer Reading Recommendations
At Lake Brantley High School, we share Seminole County’s commitment to developing reading skills and inspiring a lifelong love of reading. Reading throughout the summer is a key to achieving both goals. Research shows that summer reading has a positive impact on academic performance and correlates to increased test scores; research also indicates that summer reading is most effective when students are given free choice of reading material. With that in mind, we are not assigning summer reading except at the AP level, but encourage you to participate in Lets Read Seminole and read anything and everything you can. Details of the program can be found at Let's Read Seminole. We’ve also provided a list of recommendations. Happy reading!
Directions: For each of these assignments you are required have at least a contact sheets worth of images – 36 photos. You can and should shoot more. Lots more. Use a USB flash drive (At least 16GB) to organize your files.

AP Studio Art 2D (Photography)with Mr. Garver
As you will be working on ONE portfolio though out the 2019-2020 school year, you are required to come up with three Themes/Ideas/Projects over the summer. This will be the foundation of your Sustained Investigation Portfolio you’ll be sending to College Board at the end of the year.
1. Come up with 3 Ideas, Projects or Themes that you’ll want to work on throughout the school year. These should be something that you have a personal interest in. Previous students have dealt with issues like: LGBTQ, Family Dynamics, Self Portraits, or even experimenting with different media.
2. For each portfolio idea shoot a Contact Sheets worth of Photos (30 for each)! Please DO NOT JUST DO SNAP SHOTS!!!! Each photo on the contact should be a well thought out photograph.
3. For each portfolio idea you come up with, write a 2-3 paragraph commentary as to why you choose the idea/theme/project and how the images demonstrate your idea.
You will turn in this summer assignment to eCampus the first day of the new school year. 3 contact sheet and 3 commentaries.
Note, just because you have 30 images of your idea doesn’t mean you are done with the final portfolio. Throughout this class you will take hundreds of photographs and our job will be to edit down to your strongest 15 to send to College Board.
If you have any questions please email me over the summer: firstname.lastname@example.org
