Dear LBHS Class of 2024,April 2024!

Dear Patriots,
Class of 2024 Senior Class Meeting | Northwest HS
Seniors, you have just SIX WEEKS left of classes! The Spring Semester is rushing right by. Please read this update and add to your calendars and to-do lists! If you have questions, please see Dr. Menta.

REMINDER: Senior Breakfast and Cap and Gown Pick-Up – Friday, April 26th
On Friday, April 26th, the Senior Class, LBHS PTSA, and LBHS Administration will be hosting the Class of 2024 Senior Breakfast and Cap and Gown Pick-Up. Breakfast will take place during 1st Period in Patriots Point. Then, Seniors will be dismissed to the Community Room for Cap and Gown Pick-up. All orders that have been placed to this point should be available for pick-up at that time. If you have not yet placed your order, we cannot guarantee it will be available for pick-up on Friday, but you will have it before Graduation. You can still place orders at www.herfforlando.com.

Only Seniors are allowed to participate in the Senior Breakfast and Cap and Gown Pick-Up. Families will not be permitted on campus. If a student is unable to participate in Cap and Gown Pickup on April 26th, their cap and gown will be available for pick-up by the student any day thereafter by making arrangements with Dr. Menta.

Graduation Attire
We know many of you are already planning what to wear at Graduation. Graduates may wear dresses or collared shirts with slacks, skirts, or dress pants. T-shirts, jeans, and shorts are not permitted. Ties are optional for those wearing collared shirts. Formal/business shoes are required. Casual sandals, flip flops, basketball/tennis shoes, sneakers, or anything even less casual are not permitted.
Graduates are also not permitted to have bags, flowers, or other personal items with them between the pre-ceremony line-up and the end of the ceremony. Cell phones are NOT permitted.

Graduation Regalia

In addition to caps and gowns, Graduates may wear additional regalia, which includes stoles, cords, pins, and medallions. Such additional regalia must be approved by Principal Blasewitz and the Graduation Coordinator, Dr. Menta. Only regalia approved and ordered by club and organization sponsors are approved to be worn at Graduation. Sponsors have been informed of these guidelines. Such approved regalia include satin stoles for members of NHS and nationally recognized club officers, cords for participation in service organizations, arts programs, varsity sports, and academic honors organizations, and Honor Graduate cords (red/white/blue braid). These cords are distributed through coaches and club/organization sponsors in mid-April. Students will not be permitted to wear homemade or unapproved regalia at Graduation. We have previously approved additional regalia for students who have already enlisted in the armed forces. Please contact Dr. Menta for approval.

If you would like the details of LBHS’s Regalia Guidelines or have any questions, please contact Graduation Coordinator Dr. Menta at [email protected].

Graduation Tickets
We are being provided with enough tickets for each graduate to receive 10. Starting on Monday, April 29th, those who need 1-2 extra tickets will be able to login to MySchoolBucks to purchase them for $10 each. Tickets are first-come-first-served. There are only 190 extra tickets available. If you are unable to purchase any, ask friends and/or classmates for any unused tickets. Please know, if you purchase more than is allowed through MySchoolBucks, you will be refunded for the extras and only receive what you are permitted. If you need assistance with your MySchoolBucks account, please contact the Bookkeeper Mrs. Kristine Evans: [email protected]/

The additional tickets will be added to the envelope of 10 seniors will receive during diploma verification and ticket pickup on Tuesday, May 14th, Seniors’ Last Day. Also, please know that refunds will NOT be provided for any
reason, including if a student who purchased additional graduation tickets does not meet graduation requirements and is unable to walk on May 21st or chooses not to attend.

Name Pronunciations
Starting Monday, April 15th, Seniors may – but are not required to – go to the Building 6 Office throughout the day to see Mrs. Densberger and confirm the phonetic pronunciation of their names. You may do this until May 13th. On May 14th, unless we have a phonetic pronunciation provided by the Senior on the card in the Building 6 Office, our readers at Graduation will make their best guess at the accurate pronunciations.

Senior Exams, Diploma Verification, and Seniors’ Last Day
Senior Final Exams will take place May 9th – 13th. The last day of school for the Class of 2024 will be Tuesday, May 14th. That morning, Seniors will report to the LBHS Performing Arts Center for Graduation Rehearsal, then participate in Ticket Pick-Up. May 9-13, the LBHS Administration, Office of Student Services, and Bookkeeper will be completing Diploma Verification and Financial Clearance for graduating Seniors. Those Seniors who have outstanding financial obligations and/or those who have not yet met their Graduation Requirements will have their tickets pulled from Ticket Pick-Up on Tuesday, May 14th. Instead, those Seniors will receive a letter explaining why they are not cleared to graduate and participate in the May 21st Ceremony.

Cap Decorating Approval Process
Mr. Blasewitz has granted the Class of 2024 permission to decorate their caps for the Graduation Ceremony in May. Cap designs may not contain offensive, hateful, or inappropriate words, symbols, or images. All decorated caps require administrative approval. If you wish to decorate your cap, you must submit a design to Mrs. Patricia Reyes by Friday, May 10th. At the end of this document is the LBHS Class of 2024 Graduation Cap Design Template. You must submit your proposed design to Mrs. Reyes and receive approval before decorating your cap. Students arriving to the May Graduation Ceremony in a cap with an unapproved design will need to purchase a new cap or use a donated cap to be able to walk.

Wheelchair Accessibility

The Additions Financial Arena is a wheelchair accessible facility with ramps and elevators. Attendees who utilize a wheelchair or other mobility device will be able to sit in the accessible seating areas in the mid-level of the Arena. These cannot be reserved in advance. Be on the lookout for a map with these areas indicated in the final update next month.

This is just the first of many updates I will be providing in the next two months. The specifics of the ceremony (arrival time, line-up, guest instructions) will be coming soon. If you have urgent questions or questions regarding the information covered above, please e-mail me at [email protected].

GPA Calculation for Class Rank and Honors Designation

Senior GPAs will be calculated and pulled in mid-January to determine Class Rank (including Top 10, Valedictorian/Salutatorian) as well as Honors Designation (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude). Once these GPAs are calculated, absolutely no changes will be made to Class Rank or Honors Designation.

For this reason, make sure all virtual school and dual-enrollment coursework are completed by the end of December and the grade reports are received by your School Counselor within the first two weeks of January. These processes generally happen automatically, but it is your responsibility to confirm that all eligible coursework is included in your GPA before we run the Class Rank and Honors calculation. Coursework completed between January and May 2024 will be considered for transcripts and fulfilling the 2.0 GPA graduation requirement; however, it will not impact Class Rank or Honors Designation. Contact your Certified School Counselor if you have any questions.
