Environmental Wastewater Technology Program

  • Are you interested in a career that leads the way in environmental change?
  • Are you interested in reaching your financial goals?
  • Do you want to gain hands-on experience and get industry certified while in school?

Project H2O Tx is for you! Project H2O Tx is a partnership between Lake Brantley High School and the City of Altamonte Springs to provide high school seniors with training, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to receive an industry certification in the field of environmental wastewater technology.

The Environmental Wastewater Technology program provides classroom instruction on water resource management, wastewater treatment process control, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. This course serves as a science credit and provides significant training in environmental science.

This program offers students the ability to receive hands-on training at the Altamonte Springs Regional Water Reclamation Facility through regular field trips to the plant. Students will complete the Sacramento Volumes I & II in class which are a requirement to take for the FDEP (Florida Department of Environmental Protection) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator C exam. Students who complete the Volumes I & II will be given the opportunity to take the FDEP exam. To become a licensed operator at a wastewater facility, operators must complete 2,080 hours of practical experience and pass the FDEP exam. This program gives students the opportunity to pass the exam and earn 300 hours of practical experience.

Career opportunities in this industry are growing and many facilities need plant operators. Most operators have salaries that begin close to $40,000 per year. Students enrolled in the program will get to explore the career opportunities outside plant operating. This program is invaluable to students interested in careers in environmental science, engineering, laboratory science in addition to the many careers within a wastewater plant.

If you are interested in joining the program for the 2023-2024 school year, it is not too late! Email your school counselor or [email protected] for more information.
