Art / Photography
The LBHS art department offers a wide range of classes, including Art 2D Design, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography I-IV, Portfolio, AP Art History, and AP Studio Art. LBHS students have won numerous awards at local and national art shows and are recipients of scholarships at various universities and art colleges. Our students also have artwork on display at the Florida State Capitol and the US Congressional Building.
Band
The band program offers courses in Concert and Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble I & II, Instrumental Techniques, Jazz Ensemble, Keyboard I & II, Music Theory, and AP Music Theory. The 250+ members of the Patriot Band perform at all varsity football games, festivals, parades and other civic functions. District Marching Festival is held in October in DeLand; the Marching Patriots have scored straight superiors at this FBA adjudicated festival for 31 consecutive years. The concert bands perform in four home concerts and at the district and state assessment levels where superior ratings have been received consistently. Individual band members perform for ratings at Solo and Ensemble at the district and state levels. Throughout the years our band has had excellent representation in the All-County and All-State Concert Bands.

Chorus
The chorus department offers six different chorus classes in which a diverse group of students with a wide range of abilities have the opportunity to perform. All chorus students have the opportunity to perform in at least eight programs each year, including three annual concerts (i.e. autumn, winter, spring), two district level evaluations (District M.P.A.), two Disney holiday programs, and one state level evaluation. The chorus department has received multiple district level “superiors,” thereby achieving the distinction of qualifying multiple groups to perform at “State” for 41 consecutive years.

Dance
The dance program, with over 200 students, offers Dance Tech 1-Dance Tech 5. There are two dance teams: junior varsity and varsity Sparklers. Auditions are held in April every year for students interested in trying out for one of the dance teams. The dance department produces two dance shows a school year, one in December and one in May. The Sparklers perform with the band during football season and at basketball games in the winter. Over the past 14 years the dance teams have won superior awards for their performances at the FBA District Festival. During the spring semester, the dance teams attend regional and state competitions where they have won many awards.

Drama
The Drama department offers Drama I; Acting I, II, and III; and Stagecraft I. The curriculum focuses on cultivating the performing arts and provides an opportunity for the students to participate in two full-length productions - one in the fall and one in the spring. The department’s Thespian Troupe 2888 annually participates in both district and state competitions. The troupe has won numerous “Best of Show” awards, as well as “Critic’s Choice” awards in both performing and technical categories.
